Marie Lamadieu, AVON Representative

MarieLamadieu.jpgMarie Lamadieu is a multidimensional entrepreneur.  She stepped out on faith by leaving a full-time but totally unfulfilling career in higher education and now works full time as an Avon representative and recruiter. She is also a performer with the Anakawona Dance Troupe.

EBWN interviewed Marie and here is what we discovered about this dynamic entrepreneur:

EBWN:  Why did you start your Avon business?

Marie:  I was working full time and putting in overtime hours but I was still struggling to pay all of my bills. I finally got to the point where I realized that I was going to have to get a second job. I didn’t want to be away from the home because of my child so Avon was the perfect answer.

EBWN:  What did you do prior to launching your business?

Marie:  Actually, while I was working full time as an academic advisor at an online college, I started to do Avon on the side so I could generate some extra money.

EBWN:  Is it true that Avon sells more than cosmetics?    What else does Avon offer?

Marie:  Avon has expanded to all areas imaginable.  We have clothes, shoes, and perfume for men and women, fashion jewelry, items for children, items for the house and so much more. It’s amazing how much Avon has grown.

EBWN:  How did you make the transition from working for someone else to working full-time as an entrepreneur?

Marie: The transition was rather easy. I use to sit at my desk at work writing and planning on how I would make the transition from working for someone to doing Avon full time but I was afraid to make a move. One day, I was called into a meeting along with others in my department and we were told that the next day would be our last because the department was being eliminated. At that moment, I just felt like I couldn’t have received a clearer sign to step out on faith and really start living the life I’d always wanted. The next day, after packing up my desk, I drove right to an Avon sales meeting where I sat with the district sales manager and discussed how we were going to take my business to the next level.

EBWN:  What keeps you grounded?

Marie:  Remembering that I was put on this earth to serve others and being successful won’t take that purpose away, it’ll only intensify it.
